Viagra Connect – Now Available Over the Counter in the UK- Says Drug Regulator.
Viagra (Sildenafil Citrate) is used by men throughout the globe who are suffering from erectile dysfunction.
The medicine was required a valid physician’s prescription which made it strictly not available for every individual.
Recently medicine regulator made an approach to make Viagra Over the Counter (OTC) pill in the UK where it can be bought without a doctor’s prescription.
The formula of Viagra was launched in 1998 as a proper brand where it gained maximum hype due to its efficacy in treating men with erection problems and who are not satisfied with their sexual living.
There’s a huge percentage of men who need medicine like Viagra to enhance their sexual performance so they can live a happy life.
Fortunate people of the UK now can buy this revolutionary medicine easily at any pharmacy.
Last Tuesday the news spread worldwide, indicating the availability of Viagra over the counter throughout the UK.
This step was taken by the MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency) so that men would not buy the fake and scam sex pills from unregulated web pages.
It was hard for many men to visit a physician then talk about their problems just to get a prescription. With that step made, now every man who cannot afford to visit a physician can easily access Viagra.
Manager of Risk Management Department of MHRA Mick said, “Erectile dysfunction can be a debilitating condition, so it’s important men feel they have fast access to quality and legitimate care and do not feel they need to turn to counterfeit online supplies which could have potentially serious side-effects.”
Dr, Berkeley Phillips, Company’s Medical Director of UK said in support, “We understand some men may avoid seeking support and treatment for this condition, so we trust giving them the option to talk to a pharmacist and buy Viagra could be a real step forward in encouraging more men into the health care system”.
The responsibility to guide men with erectile dysfunction was given to the pharmacists where they have to advise the patients on the usage of medicine and warn them with the potential side effects in a long run.
However, those men who are suffering from the following conditions cannot purchase Viagra.
- Men with severe Liver and Kidney failure
- Men with severe cardiovascular complications
- Those men who are already having other medications to stop drug interaction incidents.
Furthermore, the dosage of Viagra should not be exceeded from 50mg OD i.e per day.
The dosage pattern is regulated under the strict supervision of the FDA.
What is Erectile Dysfunction?
It is a condition where men fail to attain or sustain an erectile while sexual intercourse.
The condition is caused by many factors such as depression, lack of libido, anxiety or excessive alcohol consumption.
The condition has caused many divorces, breakups which leave men depressed and unsatisfied with life.
With this thing keep in mind, MHRA received about dozens of requests from the general physicians to make Viagra available “over the counter”.
Majority of doctors were with the decision while there were some medical personals especially Pharmacists who were not with the decision made.
According to them making Viagra available OTC can lead to substance abuse which is another scenario of devastation.
The final decision which was made outweighed the risks which were predicted by many Health Practitioners.
Viagra – How it got Recognized?
The formula was firstly introduced to treat Angina Pectoris, but it failed to treat angina which is why it was dropped from the market.
But there was a catch while attempting to treat angina the medicine improve sex lives of millions of people due to its potential effect which was treating erection problem.
It was observed that men after taking Viagra 50 mg an hour before sex experienced a massive erection for a longer period of time.
Which leads us to the fact that it can delay the time of sex, later on, the drug was introduced as a blue pill to treat erectile dysfunction.
Pfizer Pharmaceutical, the manufacturer of Viagra earned £1bn a year with only this single product.
It can be about making Viagra available over the counter to generate billions of revenue, but at the same time, it is also about improving sexual lives of thousands of couples who are at a verge of leaving their relations just because of unsatisfactory male performance.
In the UK it was surveyed that many men became depressed in isolation after their partner left them due to the lack of sexual pleasure.
Needless to say, the availability of Viagra can change the lives of many men who are shy to visit a physician to discuss their problems.
We think it is a very supportive initiative from MHRA and also they have done the finest job to improve and sustain healthier relations in their country.
